2015-16 Mid-Season Issue
GSN: Today I'm with Jules Marks, the rookie forward of the Detroit Red Wings. Hello Jules, how are you doing?
Jules Marks: Hey Chuck, I'm fine, thanks. It's a pleasure to be here. I've been reading your articles since I was a child.
G: Well, thanks. I'm glad to know that at least one person read my interviews. Anyway, let's get it started. So, what do you have to say about the Wings season so far?
JM: Well, we've been playing good lately. Right now we're in the eight spot. Hopefully we'll be able to stick to it and maybe climb even more on the standings. Get to the playoffs was something that we really expected coming into the season and I think that we can achieve it by the end of the season. We may be young, but I believe that we have enough talent to compete.
G: What would you say that is the strongest part of your team?
JM: Yeah, you know I can't tell you that!! (laughs) Hum, I guess that I can tell you something you can see on the stats sheet. Looking at it it's possible to learn that we have a decent offense. I guess that we are somewhere in the top ten in scoring. So, I would say that scoring a lot is the strongest part of our team, because our defense hasn't been very sharp.
G: That's about right. You, specially, is having quite a good year, don't you agree? According to the last time I saw the stats, you were the second in points by a rookie.
JM: I believe you can say so. I'm trying to do what I can. Of course that playing alongside some of these players help a lot. Emilio, Kurt and Aki are very talented and can either score or dish you a sweet pass in any second. So, it really makes my job much easier.
G: What about the critics that said that you might have been a reach when you were drafted?
JM: Criticism is something that always bugs you, but it's also something that will always happen. I just try to let it go and do the best I can. The writters do what they are supposed to do, which is to write what they think about each player. Some of them might dislike my game, fortunatelly it really doesn't matter as long as coach Versatin and the Red Wings believe that I'm good for the team.
G: Some people said that you were too much of a light hitting player. Do you agree?
JM: Chuck, each player has a way to play the game. Unfortunatelly, I'm not the biggest player and I'm not the most physical player. But I believe that hitting is not my job on the team. As long as I defend well and contribute on the attack, I think I have done my job.
G: Jules, good luck in the season! That's it for tonight. Thanks for coming.
JM: My pleasure.
