2015-16 Mid-Season Issue
As we know, every team must submit a monthly financial report to teh league office and a financial planning for the year as soon as the season turns over.
When we see the teams financial reports they all look like fine, right? But that's not the reality, after days of massive searchings and contacting several people, we discovered that some team financial reports are not entirely genuine.
According to rule 5.01 of the Salary Cap section, team budgets for the year must be between 50 and 60 million dollars. Although the financial planning of every teams show they are acting legally we've found out some discrepances, 11 teams are spending more money on player budgets then the max permited value.
Which are:
BOSTON $60.100.000
BUFFALO $66.300.000
CAROLINA $71.300.000
COLUMBUS $72.700.000
EDMONTON $63.000.000
LOS ANGELES $74.400.000
MINNESOTA $62.700.000
MONTREAL $67.900.000
PHILADELPHIA $71.400.000
PITTSBURGH $64.700.000
SAN JOSE $71.900.000
We tried to contact those team owners, Boston owner told GSN "we only had 100k dollars added to make a few changes on the locker room, it's no big deal".
Columbus is spending more than 12 millions more than permited, he answered us with an italian accent: "Take care of your own business, will you? I give money to charity, i help the church, let me do my job and you do yours, ok?."
Surprisingly, two of the worst teams in the league are spending a lot of money this season, S.J. and L.A. owners were found together in a Los Angeles beach, they are believed to be paying a little more money to their athletes than their contracts show. That way they don't need to pay taxes over players salaries "off-contract". Although we did try to talk with them, they didn't answer us in any way.
No other owner returned our calls.
